COOKING WITH CLORIS--COZY FOOD: 128 COZY MYSTERY WRITERS SHARE THEIR FAVORITE RECIPES

A couple of months ago, Lois Winston, the author who writes the books about my coworker, crafts editor and reluctant amateur sleuth Anastasia Pollack, was invited to contribute to a cookbook featuring recipes from cozy mystery writers. Well, anyone who knows Lois knows she doesn’t have much time or inclination to cook. She’s too busy writing all those Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery novels. So she turned the task over to me—her go-to gal in the kitchen, food editor Cloris McWerther (I also play Watson on occasion to Anastasia’s Sherlock.) I suggested she contribute my recipe for White Chocolate and Plum Brownies, featured in Assault with a Deadly Glue Gun.

Cozy Food: 128 Cozy Mystery Writers Share Their Favorite Recipes is edited by author Nancy Lynn Jarvis and is now available. It features more than 220 recipes as varied and interesting as an amateur sleuth’s day job.

Regional recipes come from every part of the United States and England — a couple find their way from Australia and Italy, as well as from diverse times. There are recipes from people looking to keep gluten out of their lives, eat vegetarian, or make a treat or two for their furry four-legged friends. And yes, there are recipes that appeal to the sweet tooth, lots of them, in fact, like my White Chocolate and Plum Brownies.

There’s no mystery about what happens when cozy writers get together. They bring the wit, inventiveness, and adventure found in their books right along with their recipes.

The recipes are introduced by their authors (in our case, Lois standing in for me) and linked to the writer bios in the back of the book. You can look up your favorite cozy writer and see which recipes are their favorites; they'll tell you what the recipe means to them. Or you can enjoy a dish and then link to the recipe's author's biography and books.

Either way you enjoy the cookbook, you're sure to find great new recipes to make and terrific new cozy authors to read.

Cloris, I want to add your name to the book. Elaine Orr had muffin recipes credited to her good friend Leigh Michaels. How about it, Lois?

Cloris would love that, Nancy.

Some great recipes...now, if only I could cook (smile). But, I'm happy to share with my sister who is the cook in the family!

Thanks, Angela!

Angela, Some of the writers said their protagonists don't cook either. We have "Quick, Easy, Quirky, Saucy, & Even Pet Treats" just for you. LOL.
